Through out the whole rear
assembly there were many areas that had errors. Some added and some subtracted. By this I mean if a 8 piece of metal  are combined with each being off 1/8" in the same (or positive) direction, then the error is 1" . Most of the time you could bias (fudge) the piece so that the differences added to 0" (best case).
The first picture at the top shows one of the two places that the errors stacked against me and the only fix I could come up with was this extra strip to square out the trunk floor so that the tail light pan would have no gaps.


The second picture shows the trunk lid in place to make sure the seam was in reason all around and that the lock cylinder was right above the gas fill before final welding.

This picture shows how the strip intersects with the tail light pan.
I will grind the welds and use seam sealer at the intersections before painting to blend. This hides the fact that there was a 5/8" gap on the drivers side.
