Bill's rear frame rail patches |
This is truely a before and after shot. The rail ends/ spring mounts were measured
for location and both rail ends were removed by cutting and drilling the spot
welds out. |
This is the passenger side rear before the removal of the rail end. notice the rot
hole under the spring shackle |
This is the drivers side after the new rail end has been tacked into place. The end
of the old section near the axle bumper needed to be plated for strength as
there is rot though and it was thin. A piece of 16 gauge was placed inside the
rail and holes drilled and plug welded (as shown). |
This is another view of the drivers side rail. It is only tacked for now until the
other side is put in place. We need to confirm the spring shackle locations are
correct before welding the up solid. |
This is a piece of the cars history that we found hiding under the frame rail. It
was on the under side of the trunk floor. It would appear from the date in the
lower left hand corner that a body shop repaired the rear quarter sections around
1986. As you will see through some of these pages they did cut some corners
on doing the work correctly
(to
our standards anyways) |
The above two pictures show the passenger side at the intersection of the shock brace.
Bill cut the worst of the rot of the end of the brace and neutralized the
remainder of the rust on the rail and brace. He then cold galvinized the metal
and welded in a fabricated piece at the rail arch to reinforce the rail. It was
pretty thin in spots. |
Here is another view of the rail reinforcement piece welded in place |
This is the same section after replacement |
